Organising food for a party can be a fairly difficult task when dealing with adults and it becomes even harder when you’re serving children. As any parent knows; children are picky eaters at the best of times and it can be easy to just resort to buying bags of lollies and chips to satiate their ravenous hunger.
However, if you’re health conscious then the last thing you want to do is load up a bunch of children with sugary, processed foods. This is especially true when you’re supervising the children of other parents who might prefer if their child had healthy options.
Luckily it’s possible to serve healthy treats without jeopardising the fun factor. Let’s take a look at some healthy party food choices for kids.
Note, always check to see if any of the attending children have food allergies and make sure to plan around them.
It’s common knowledge that it can be hard to get kids to eat vegetables and as such parents have developed countless dastardly schemes to trick their kids into compliance. One such scheme is to serve small slices of vegetables along with a yummy dip.
Carrot sticks are ideal but you can do this with pretty much any type of vegetable. There are also plenty of healthy dip choices that everyone will love, such as hummus.
If you know your kids find fruit boring, then try making it more exciting by cutting them into shapes. There are lots of cutter templates to choose from ranging from butterflies, rocket ships and anything else kids enjoy.
If the children are a little older, try putting the fruit on skewers to make it a little more accessible.
Fruit flavoured water
Instead of resorting to high sugar soft drinks, cordial or store fruit juices, simply infuse some pieces of fruit in a jug of water. It’s easy to do and creates a tasty zing to otherwise boring water.
If you’re looking for something a little more filling, chicken dipper strips are a great healthy choice when combined with some dips or sauces.
